Knowledge Management

The underlying theme of our knowledge management approach is a focus on leveraging domain-specific knowledge, in domains as diverse as medicine or economics. The solutions we offer leverage our suite of patent-pending technologies aimed at eliciting community input in the building of domain ontologies. This is particularly applicable in the creation and modification of bodies of knowledge (BoKs), which are a common approach to delineating the scope and structure of domain knowledge. Examples can be found in include the geographic information science and technology (GIS&T BoK), project management (PMBOK), software engineering (SWEBOK), or business analysis (BABOK).

Capturing Ontology

A key question faced in the creation and updating of bodies of knowledge and their formalized representation in domain ontologies is how best to capture the domain knowledge that has been accumulated within a community. Specifically, how can we move from the current model of involving only a select group of experts towards broader input from domain practitioners?

Our answer relies on a wikified ontology editing environmen, built from industry-standard components, allowing members of a domain community to review, edit, and provide feedback on formal ontological structures consisting of concepts and several types of relationships. Our patent-pending solution interfaces visual editing of the domain concepts and relationships with an ontology database.

Ontology Services

Once a domain BoK or other type of formalized domain knowledge is turned into a formal ontology, BigKnowledge® is able to offer innovative ontology services that can be ingested by applications. These span the range of simple ontology queries to a blending of ontologies with text mining, much of which relying on our proprietary solutions.
